iPad Versions Released

Well the iPad versions are finally released. I'll post some screen shots and better instructions in the next day or two. However, for now, you'll need to understand how to add Seasons, Teams, Players and Games. Its a little quirky but once you have done it a couple of times you'll be fine. The process is:

1) Hit the button in the top left corner to pick whether you are modifying Seasons, Teams or Players. This step isn't necessary in the Games screen because you are only dealing with games.
2) At the bottom of the list (always visible in landscape mode, visible by hitting the second button in the top left in portrait mode) select a Season and/or Team as appropriate.
3) To ADD an entry, hit the Edit button, then the + button that appears. Then you can type your details on the main screen. Finish by hitting save in the bottom right corner.
4) When you have finished Adding/Deleting entries, hit the Done button.
UPDATE - with the currently released version you no longer need to hit Edit then + to add entries. Simply click in the 'Add' row. This should be far more intuitive.
5) Click on any row to bring the details into the main screen for editing. Here's the annoying twist - you can't be in Edit mode to edit something. Yes, its kinda silly :) If you are in Edit mode, hit the Done button. Then you will be able to edit entries. Hit save when you're finished.

I know the workflow isn't great. I'm working on improving it but I want to get the Android versions done first plus I am finalizing a new app that tracks all of the stats just by entering shots. You'll be able to track goals, assists, shots, saves, missed shots, pipe/post shots and blocked shots - for both your team AND your opponent. It will also track the stats for the goalies. It is being beta tested this weekend at a rather large tournament in Minnesota - if all goes well I'll get it released shortly. Which app to chose really depends on the stats you want and the workflow you like.

Please contact me with any questions or suggestions.

  1. I can't seem to get it working. Entered all the season and team info, but when I go to enter a game, I choose the season and my team will not show up under the team choice box. Was going to try this this weekend at our tournament.

  2. I replied by email, but I'll post here too:

Create your team and make sure the opponent switch is 'off'. Then create another team with the opponent switch 'on'. Add at least one player to your team, but obviously the stats are better if you add all of the players.

Try and run a game again.

    Second idea:
I saw a case yesterday where I added a season and then tried to run a game with no teams. Obviously that didn't work so I added a team but then the team didn't show up in the list on the game page because it didn't refresh properly. To fix it you need to restart the app. To do that:

    1) hit the home button twice and you'll see a list of running apps at the bottom.
    2) touch and hold on the hockey stat tracker app and eventually it will start wiggling and a red x will appear. Hit the red x and the app will close.
    3) hit home to go back to normal mode.
    4) run the app again and see if you can see the season

Make sure you have seasons added like described above before restarting - or at least don't try and start a game before adding the teams.

  3. I think I figured it out as well. If the team name or season name had a space in it, I had the problem. I re-created them without the spaces and it worked fine.

  4. I feel like a complete idiot, but have a couple questions/thoughts.

    1. When I am entering a game on my iPad, the Home/Away portion, and the "Type" have no choices in them. Do I add these, and if so, where.

    2. Is there any way to edit while "in game". If I fat finger a goal instead of an assist for example, how can I quickly correct it/

    3. Would be nice to have player last name by the number when entering games. Not sure if you use this in game, or as a summary, but in game it's a nice reference to have player name.

  5. Hmm - spaces in names should work. I'll look and see if I've screwed something up. You may want to add a space again and see if it shows up now.

You're the second person to have the home/away and type problem. I have an idea as to why its happening. I'll contact you via email and get you a build to try to see if it fixes it.

You can easily edit a shot in game but touching it. You can also drag a shot around if its in the wrong spot.

I had trouble fitting in the player name. If you are interested in shot information (not hits and +/-) the next app I'm working on may work better for you. Again I'll contact you via email and get you a test build of it.

  6. Ha Ha - I didn't look closely this morning. It seems that I don't have your email address. Can you email me at hockeystattracker@gmail.com and we'll work on getting a build for you.

  7. Mark, can you import games from the lite version on an Ipad?

  8. Yes you can import from Lite to Full on all platforms. Contact me at hockeystattracker@gmail.com, let me know which app (Stat or Shot Tracker) and I can give instructions.
